If Star’s Hollow had a West-Coast Lakeside Twin, it would be Solace Springs. Home of the Cherry Blossom Boathouse and full to the brim with small town charm, quirky characters, (who also hold over the top town hall meetings), and its own grumpy sunshine couple, Luke and Sophie 😍 📖 The Cherry Blossom Boathouse 🖋️ Laura Bloom 🗓️ Publishing May 26th 📋 3.5 ⭐️ | 2 🌶️ I have so many mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, the book is cute, full of beautiful spring atmosphere, very easy to follow and enjoyably predictable. The premise is adorable and I was quickly invested Sophie’s mission to convert the boathouse into a “Pinterest worthy” bookstore. I love a strong independent FMC in a contemporary romance. The small town charm is heartwarming and the quirky town folk really do feel straight out of an episode of Gilmore Girls (town hall meeting included). Finally, I have to give it to the author, she does a beautiful job of illustrating grief and work it take to heal. On the hand, I just wasn’t able to become emotionally invested in the relationship between the two characters. In all honesty, I am not a huge fan of insta-lust and from the moment these two meet, it’s clear that their connection begins in their attraction to one another. To have such a fast turn around from outright resentment to happily collaborating on the boathouse in less than 24 hours just wasn’t something I could 100% swallow as the reader. I felt pacing continued to be rushed and so when the relationship finally does becomes a thing, there just wasn’t enough tension built between the two to really make it feel satisfying. I know the third act break up is romance writing staple for a reason but again, it felt rushed and like everything resolved far too quickly to create an impactful happily ever after. Overall, this was fun, adorable fast read that was the perfect for spring. Fans of small town charm ala Gilmore Girls or Hart of Dixie will absolutely fall in love with the Solace Springs and its newest resident. Lovers of seasonal romances such as those by Harper Graham or Laurie Gilmore should absolutely check this one out!
