Beck had everything I look for in a dark romance: the Hunt, st@lking, non-con, CNC, a bit of secret society, hidden darkness lurking in the supposed golden boy, and a not-so-tame wallflower (surprise, she has a bit of a backbone when everyone thought not) with a hint of bully-ish aspects. The Hunt is where powerful men and women get to hunt their prey at an invite-only event. When they catch you, they get to do anything they want to you. The not-so-confident FMC Bel and a golden boy everyone loves, Drew, become involved in an obsessed/hate relationship when he forces her to tutor him with an offer she couldn't refuse. Sometimes, I would question Bel's behavior and ask why she would be okay or go along with certain things. Some of her choices weren't her best, although she tried to show her backbone and hold her ground. She was dealing with the College's golden boy everyone deemed 'perfect' or the 'king of the school,' so she didn't have much choice. However, after reaching that CLIFFY of an ending, I knew her wallflower persona would change for the better and that her character would transform. Personally, I enjoyed this book, and I can't wait for the second one to come out because J.L. left me high and dry with the ending in Wallflower. I thought Drew's character was flawed. Of course, he was the antihero/morally grey guy, but beyond that, his father pulled strings and did things to him that forced Drew. If anything, his dad was pulling his strings, and he was the puppet. But beyond that, Drew still had a darkness beyond his golden boy persona that few people saw except Bel and his closest friend. Oh, and don't get me started on Drew's friends--I loved each of their personalities and hope they get their own books. I would recommend The Wallflower to anyone who loves a dark romance, a bully aspect, a wallflower who eventually flourishes but not before she reaches her lowest, and a complex, morally grey character.
