Well, this is the easiest five stars I have ever given while rating a book. From the moment I picked this up I could not put it down. I read over half of it in one sitting and woke up before anyone else to pick it back up again and finish it. The world building is so good. I loved reading about Marmoris Kingdom and The Hidden City and the war between the two. It felt like the perfect amount of detail to explain both and their purpose to the story. The magic system was really interesting and I loved how everyone has a certain kind and had jobs related to what they could do. The character building? Perfection. I loved seeing "Nyra's" story unfold and watching her evolve from Princess, to being on the streets, to warrior. I loved her personality and how she carried herself while facing every situation. I loved the danger she faces while hiding her identity and walking into her Father's enemy territory to join them. You'll find yourself holding your breath a lot because of her and what's at stake if she ever gets caught. Daddy Dacre. The anticipation I had waiting to meet him. He absolutely lived up to the hype and more. I had high expectations in my head before starting this book based off what I have heard already, and nothing does him more justice than reading this book yourself. He's the commanders son, he's morally grey, he's an ahole who's main mission is to get inside the kingdom and find the princess. He is training his enemies daughter to fight. insert internal screaming here THE TENSION. THE LIES. THE ATTRACTION between Nyra and Dacre hurts so good. I am absolutely obsessed with these two. I think they just became my favorite characters ever. This book is easily one of my favorites. If I can convince you to pick up a book this year, PLEASE let it be this one. Holly what did you put in this book?? All the stars, the hype is real, drop what your doing and go get this book. If anyone knows of a way to erase memory so I can read this book again for the first time, I'm ready.
