What started out as a sweet story of forbidden young love changed drastically about half way through. I think it’s important to note that the writing style in the first part of this book has a much younger feel than the rest (almost YA) because it’s a flashback of the characters in their teenage years. When the time jump hits, not only does the writing mature, but we also see some much darker themes. I was absolutely glued to these pages from this point on. While the heartbreak that both Lena & Silas endured absolutely gutted me, there were plenty of lighthearted moments added in that balanced the pain. These characters are all perfectly imperfect & definitely blur the lines of right/wrong, but you just can’t help loving them for trying to do what they each think is right. I really enjoyed how the story was pretty fast paced (I never felt bored), and I was SO excited to jump right into book two by the end. So happy I finally picked this up, & I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner!
