Depth, humor and big hearted story. It’s so beautiful!

This story and the characters own my heart forever. They are beautifully multifaceted, they’re charming and at times they are so extraordinary that they made me cry with happiness; and sometimes I cried because my heart ached for them. I think the characters are so well developed and likable that I felt incredibly strongly for them. It’s a tender yet, deeply funny story with a super slow burn romance that worked for this story and characters really well. The chemistry between two grumps is banter and tension filled, I absolutely adored it! Banter is my jam and it’s done so perfectly in this book. The very clever children of Barrett, Bruce and Maggie sneak their way into the life and heart of their new, temporary neighbor, Lily and her equally grumpy dog, Larry. These relationships are enough to make this story so compelling and fulfilling but, there’s the awesome romance as well. It’s so slow burn, I felt the loneliness of Lily and Barrett deeply which made me yearn for them to fall head over heels and act on it. I laughed, cringed, ached and felt so much for these amazing people. There’s so much to love about this delightful story, I highly recommend it. This romance has the most fulfilling last few chapters of any contemporary romance I’ve read. I felt completely satisfied with the journey of the characters and where they end up. I hope you’ll give this book a read if it sounds like something you would enjoy. It’s going on my top favorite romance reads of the year. You’d think it was the perfect setup: living next door to the grumpy single dad who needs my help with his troublemaking kids—just until football season is over. Swoony stuff, right? You know who’s not swooning? Me. I’m as grumpy as he is, and I’m fairly certain that for NFL Coach Barrett King, it was hate at first sight. It’s nothing I’ll lose sleep over because 1) the feeling is mutual, and 2) I’m not a people person. Just me and my dog, Larry, moving around when the mood strikes, is what I prefer. Except I start getting attached. First to the kids. Then to their father. I don’t know why. He’s overbearing. His attempts at flirting are just growls and glares. But if I ever see that man smile…well, I might tear all his clothes off. I don’t do forever. And Barrett—serious, thoughtful, sexier than he has any right to be—doesn’t do short term.
