Her curiosity leads her to a mysterious, vacant mansion—a venture that ends in disaster when she is shot by Jon and Cliff, two seasoned monster hunters who mistake her for a supernatural threat. The encounter forces an unlikely alliance: to survive, Sylvia saves Jon’s life by sealing a magical, high-stakes pact with the ancient fae. Now tethered to the hunters, she is forced to join their grueling quest to track down a lethal werewolf. As they traverse the dangerous landscape, the initial hostility between the fey fugitive and the hunter begins to thaw into a simmering, forbidden attraction. However, this enemies-to-lovers dynamic is built on a foundation of dangerous secrets. If Jon discovers the truth about Sylvia’s pact or her origins, her fate is sealed. With the full moon approaching and the clock ticking, the pair must navigate a web of intrigue and supernatural danger. In this thrilling urban fantasy, Sylvia must fight for her survival while struggling against a love that could destroy them both.

For fans of Supernatural and Fern Gully

Image 108: A 1x1 image, likely be a tacker probe Amazon Customer](javascript:void(0)) 5 out of 5 stars For fans of Supernatural and Fern Gully Title: Shot in the Dark Authors: Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley Format: eBook Publisher: Winged Fables Publication Date: May 14, 2024 Themes: Fantasy, forbidden love, friends to lovers, supernatural, prejudice Trigger Warnings; Sexual content, gore, violence, loss of a parent, alcohol use, kidnapping I’m a horror girl and firmly not a fantasy fan. That being said, I LOVED EVERY WORD OF THIS BOOK! I’m a huge fan of Supernatural and it’s more than clear that the authors are too. This was like reading a long episode of Supernatural. While this story is definitely it’s own, I could feel the love for Sam and Dean Winchester and I loved spotting the easter eggs sprinkled in for like-minded fans. This story is of a fairy named Sylvia who is too curious for her own good. She regularly breaks curfew and flies beyond the boundaries of Elysia, the fairy village she was born into. She loves exploring a nearby abandoned house haunted by a ghost with whom she’s friendly. One night, her exploration is cut short when she is shot through the wing and kidnapped by Jon and Cliff, two seasoned monster hunters. At first, she is equal parts terrified and enraged, but soon she begins to see that maybe not all hunters are bloodthirsty murderers and not all humans are bad. When she saves Jon’s life during a werewolf hunt, she finds herself bound to him in more ways than one. As she and the hunters race to find the werewolf, forbidden love is the least of their problems. Fantasy and fairies have always been something I have avoided as a reader. Obviously, I was wrong and need to stop judging books by their covers, so they say. This book crossed my feed because a friend of mine saw that it was heavily influenced by Supernatural. I’m a HUGE Supernatural fan. I’m so glad I did. The characters in this wonderful book are now living rent free in my head and heart. Sylvia is a likable character, but Jon and Cliff have my heart just as Sam and Dean always have. This book is a comforting balm as it reads just like an episode of Supernatural. Despite the obvious love letter to Supernatural, this book should not be considered a copy of the genre tv show. It stands on its own and its characters belong within these pages. I enjoyed watching them evolve as people (or faeries). Best of all, though, was watching the various relationships shift and change. Not just the enemies to lovers situation between Jon and Sylvia, but also the deep friendship between Sylvia and Cliff. Watching an easy back and forth banter was delightful and rewarding. The love between Cliff and Jon lended a lot of heart also, which is the same thing that keeps me loving Supernatural. I found myself equal parts swooning, laughing, and crying throughout All in all, I think this book alone is responsible for making me stop worrying about genre and start branching out into fantasy. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Supernatural and even those who don’t. These characters have joined my fictional family and I hope they do for others too. 2 4.2 out of 5 stars](javascript:void(0))(1,145) Book 1 of 3: Shot in the Dark Series Sorry, there was a problem loading this page. Try again. See all formats and editions Obey the curfew. Never fly past Elysia’s boundaries. Above all—never speak to humans. For twenty-one summers, Sylvia has evaded the ironclad rules set by her village, driven by an insatiable curiosity to know the world beyond the confines of the willow her fellow fairies call home. Her ventures often lead her to the vacant human mansion beyond Elysia’s forest, where ghosts whisper and ancient treasures beckon in the darkness. Her exploration is shattered by a bullet through her wing—courtesy of Jon and Cliff, seasoned monster hunters who suspect her involvement in gruesome disappearances. A harrowing captivity transforms into an unlikely alliance when Sylvia saves Jon’s life by sealing a magical pact with the enigmatic Ancients—fae powers who demand a cryptic price. Sylvia is left with no choice but to stay by Jon’s side while he and Cliff hunt for a ruthless werewolf, determined to free herself from the Ancients’ settlement. As the dangerous hunt unfolds, Sylvia finds that not all legends about hunters are true. She realizes she and Jon may have more in common than she ever could have imagined—and icy hostility melts into forbidden attraction. But it doesn’t matter how he begins to look at her—it can’t matter. If Jon discovers her secret, Sylvia knows her fate is sealed. With the full moon's ominous countdown away, Sylvia and the hunters race against time with the fate of countless lives—including Sylvia's—hanging in the balance. After all, killing a monster is easy compared to falling in love with someone you shouldn’t. Perfect for fans of SUPERNATURAL and R.J. Anderson’s KNIFE, SHOT IN THE DARK is an action-packed urban fantasy novel that explores the courage it takes to embrace our true identity entwined with haunting themes of forbidden love and found family. ) ©2024 Mary Dublin and Anne Kendsley (P)2024 Tantor Media Previous slide of product details 1.
