Hello again, I'm Eve Wakefield, and I refuse to accept that I'm in love with an intergalactic moth prince. No. I don't care how handsome he is, I don't want to marry him. I don't care if his parents have a sentient spaceship capable of eating entire planets. Love is earned, not swindled by pheromones. I'm now trapped on a ship with an adorable cyborg bodyguard, a golden toilet, and relationship issues. There's the prince I'm supposed to marry, the forest beast I fell in love with, and the never-wears-clothes police officer with tentacles. I've also got a mother-in-law who looks like a giant millipede, more macarons than I can eat, and plenty of red lace lingerie made from alien moth blood. Human Eve was kidnapped by aliens, escaped slavers, and found both happiness and a mate in the dragon-like alien MMC, Abraxas. But she also has another mate, the moth-like alien MMC, Rurik. At the end of Book 1, Rurik rescued/kidnapped Eve, leaving her separated from Abraxas while bound to a mate who is in line for the throne. They have to navigate their many issues while keeping her other mate a secret or risk being killed by the current rulers. On top of that, if she’s separated from Abraxas for too long, she’ll die, and she has complicated feelings for the tentacled space cowboy, Hyt. I had mixed feelings about this installment. I love Abraxas and Hyt, but I had a hard time connecting with Rurik, which is challenging since about 90% of the book centers on them. The worldbuilding was interesting, and I enjoyed seeing more planets and alien cultures. Rurik also uses Eve’s blood to live, and outside their bodies as structures and clothing, which, while creative, wasn’t something I personally enjoyed. It gave me the ick a bit, and I found myself skimming those sections. There are a few scenes with Abraxas and Hyt, and those were my favorites. The book ends on another exciting cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to read Hyt’s book and see how they all come together to finish the trilogy in Venery.
