I’m going to do my best not to spoil anything here, but I could not put it down. I just finished the ARC for Book 2, Shadow Queen, and I am beside myself. The first chapter of this series had me absolutely HOOKED. When I tell you I am INVESTED in these characters and I have only gotten MORE invested in Shadow Queen….I don’t even know what I’m going to do while I wait for book 3. Check out what you have to look forward to if you haven’t read this one yet: Norah, Princess of Mercia and heir to the throne, is found wandering cold and alone in a mysterious forest with no memory of who she is or where she has been. She is found and recognized by a handsome soldier named Alexander who seems to know her… and know her well. ;) But where has she been for the past three years? Why has she lost her memory? There are so many questions!!! Norah returns to Mercia and is crowned Queen of a land she does not remember. As she struggles to keep her kingdom safe and navigate who she was and who she is becoming, war with Mercia’s enemy, the Shadowlands, looms ever nearer. With pressures for a marriage alliance to secure allies in the war against the Shadow King, Norah makes a sacrifice even she was not prepared to make and finds herself in a land she never imagined with a man she never anticipated by her side. Nicola Tyche is magic. The world she weaves is so all consuming, I was completely lost in it. I am rooting for everyone. Norah, Alexander, the Shadow King (Mikael), SOREN. The characters are all so complicated and morally grey and complex but vulnerable at the same time. You FEEL for them and all that each one of them has gone through. This book gives me Bridge Kingdom and Throne of Glass vibes which immediately sends it to my hall-of-fame-comfort-read-I’ll-love-them-forever books. The imagery is so beautiful and the character development is so good it hurts in all the best ways. Be prepared for a major cliffhanger at the end, but I promise you it is worth it.
