Absolutely obsessed with this book!!

I didn't think it was possible to love this book even more than I already did, but with Cassandra's writing and the amazing work of these narrators, this book was brought to life in a way I didn't even know was possible. The female narrator did an incredible job of capturing Millicent's attitude and hidden vulnerabilities, while also somehow bringing so much life to Ollie and the other characters. I was actually giddy hearing Ollie for the first time. I love that little imp so much, I might actually never recover if anything happens to him in the books to come. And then the male narrator... I was absolutely blown away by how well Cage's character was captured. It was pretty much exactly how I thought he would be in my head when I read this through the first time. His unapologetic attitude comes through so well, and the banter and spicy scenes with Millicent had me floored. It was just perfect. And on top of that, when chapter 43 rolled around, it had my jaw on the floor. I can't believe the skill and heart behind the voices in this audiobook, and you can guarantee I will be grabbing up the audio for the next books as well. These characters live rent-free in my head, and I couldn't be happier to have their voices in there now too lol Thank you so much to the author, Cassandra M.D., and Podium Entertainment for allowing me to listen to this as an ALC!! Original Review I don't think I can accurately describe how much I loved this book. From the very first page, I knew I was going to love it—and I did. Truly. The author takes you through SO MUCH in this read, and every moment has a purpose. Starting off, I was obsessed with the world-building and lore. It’s incredibly unique, well thought out, and beautifully described. The details are stunning, and I could picture the world perfectly. Some of the imagery in these passages was unreal. I love being uncomfortable when I read horror, and this HIT THE MARK every time. While it’s more than just horror, those elements fit seamlessly into the story and the world the author is creating. The characters will make you want to scream, cry, laugh, and throw your book or Kindle across the room—only for you to crawl right back to it for more. I know I did. Millicent is not what she projects to the outside world, and only a few select people can see the truth. She’s traumatized, brainwashed, and ashamed of feeling anything beyond what she was taught. At times, I was so incredibly frustrated with her—and Cage—but it only took a moment of reflection to understand why she acted and thought the way she did. You want her to break free so bad, but she’s stuck and doesn’t even know it. It will drive you insane, but the story is worth every second. And then there’s Cage. You want to hate him, but you can’t—because, just like Millicent, he has his own demons and trauma to overcome. They hate each other so good though, so is it really that bad? Yes and no. You can see Cage’s resolve slowly crumble as he tries to reach Millicent, and you’ll find yourself screaming internally for him to just get there already. But the story wouldn’t be complete without the way the two of them revolve around each other. Beware the deliciously cruel cliffhanger. It caught me completely off guard. There I was, manically flipping through my Kindle when, all of a sudden, I hit the acknowledgements. The gasp I let out when I realized it was over, and I had to wait for the next book, was tragic. I was so absorbed I didn’t even notice I was near the end. Now, please excuse me while I take 5–10 business days to recover and cope with my pressing need for book 2.
