Halen and Kallum are back, sweetness.

Kallum takes us back in time to 6 months prior, when Kallum and Halen’s inevitability began. “...my moment feels like a heart attack…but I’m not dying. I’m being brought back to life”. The delicacy of this moment immediately fortifies the history of these two in such a way we have not yet seen through LBT and LVT. The entirety of the first chapter, entitled Sigil, had my hands trembling in excitement. There was an indescribable intensity in this flashback with Kallum that I had a feeling set the tone for this book – and it delivered. Those of us who have been on this journey with Halen and Kallum from the beginning understand the depths to which Kallum will travel in order to keep Halen tethered to him, in what he perceives to be this universe and beyond. As the story journeys back to the present time, we are immediately transported back to the conclusion of LVT and the mystery surrounding Hollow’s Row; which admittedly is as deeply threaded in darkness and higher powers as Kallum’s obsession with Halen is. Without spoiling the story, I will say this; Halen has the most stunning awakening in this installment of the series – Kallum unequivocally supports her and nurtures her darkness - but she takes a journey of self-discovery that has a trajectory of its own. “We all have a dark counterpart. Even a muse of light and inspiration beckons the darkness when challenged.” Trisha’s writing is a transcendent journey. The spice in Lovely Wicked Things is the best out of the series…I dare anyone to tell me they do not feel Kallum in their bones as he worships his muse. The grief Halen allows herself to accept is laced with complicated feelings surrounding how being consumed by her darkness and Kallum makes her feel. “I’ve never been broken so immensely, and yet felt so complete, whole.” As a female reader, I often feel that internal struggle of how I perceive events in my own life and my reactions to them, and while I clearly have not faced this specific trauma, I feel many woman can relate to the feeling of struggling with their moral compass and their deepest desires, and how muddy the water can become when those two worlds become melded together. This is without a doubt the best conclusion to this series. There was a point at 80-85% my heart stuttered As I read it, it felt monumental, and I hope you find the same pounding in your heart as I did. The key word is “synchronicity”. Kallum is my favorite MMC because of this chapter alone. Also, you want to try to catch your breath when you read the epilogue, entitled “What If”. The moth in her hair….my gosh the way I needed these two to have this conclusion. Trisha, Kallum and Halen are ingrained in my heart and soul. What a gift you have given us all. Thank you for the darkness, and the light that shines through it. I was so thankful to have received this book as an ARC, and that in no way influenced my love for this story or these characters....because the love was always there.
