The only family she had was her father who passed away and left her all alone. Now, she has inherited his tattoo shop and has plans to sell her share and put her dad’s legacy behind her. That is, until she overhears her nemesis, Fox, talking about her with his tattoo friends. Suddenly, she knows she can’t give up the shop without a fight. Fox has put his blood, sweat, and tears into running the tattoo shop. No spoiled, bratty, young girl is going to take it away from him. He has worked too hard to lose and he refuses to leave the only place that ever made him feel like he was someone who mattered. DJ Krimmer does it again. She has created a world that was entertaining to read but also highlighted the nature of tattoo artists and how creative and hardworking they are. This book introduces two of the characters that exist at the Hells Ink Tattoo shop but also describes a few others that will be given their own stories in the next books of the series. (I’m looking forward to reading about Atlas in book two.) As with all her novels, there are several parts that are laugh-out-loud funny. The author has a way with writing banter between her characters that is extremely entertaining. Janie and Fox have an enemies to lovers vibe that creates the perfect amount of slow burn energy throughout the story. I’m pretty sure I was holding my breath when their moment finally came and after reading, I needed a cold shower. I listened to the audio book version of the story. Maxine Mitchell voiced Janie’s character. There has never been a character I didn’t enjoy Ms. Mitchell voicing and she doesn’t disappoint with this one. Due to some of the hard topics discussed in this story, Maxine was able to use the right amount of emotion in her voice and helped to make Janie’s character all the more relatable to the reader. Sebastian York voiced the character of Fox. The tone of his voice was perfect and after listening to the story, I can say with confidence that the producer matched the voice actor perfectly with this character. He has a gruffness to his tone, that is what I would imagine Fox to have. On a scale of one to five, I would rate a five for both the storyline and the spice in this story. I recommend this novel for mature audiences only due to sexual content and violence. I would also recommend the reader pay attention to the trigger warnings as well. Janie When my father passed away, I assumed my grieving would be as simple as closing a book and starting another. Only he had other plans. Leaving me his beloved tattoo shop, I’m stuck to figure out what exactly to do with it, all while being constantly reminded of him. Selling it was the easiest option, but after hearing some of the artists elated at the idea because they swore I’d ruin it if I took over, and reading the fine print of my father’s will, I’m determined to prove them wrong. The only problem is Fox. He’s arrogant, self-absorbed, and rude–doing everything in his power to show just how true their words would ring. Unfortunately for him though, I’ve never been afraid of a challenge. Fox Hel’s Ink was supposed to be mine, but after my mentor passed away, I learned he had other plans in mind. Leaving the shop to someone like Janie was a bad idea. Sure, she may be able to make it look good on the surface, but there is more to running this place than social media posts and some paint. We’re a family, and she’s not welcomed. Only the longer she’s here, the harder it’s proving to believe my own words. She’s too young for me, and far too complicated, but I can’t help but wonder what would happen if I just give in....
