As stepsiblings, their relationship became one of insults and bullying. Then, kicked out of her apartment, she is forced to move in with him. He is a poker playing playboy with an endless cycle of women flowing through the apartment at all hours of the day and night. She is a magazine content writer and bookworm. She is then given the opportunity to write an article “The 12 dates of Christmas.” Ryan uses these dates to tease her. Secretly, he is jealous of these men getting to date her. I loved this story so much. This is a first read for me by this author and I enjoyed everything about it. The writing style, storyline, character development, and world building are top notch. There is just enough tension between the characters to have the reader devouring each page, hoping for them to get over their relationship hang-ups and finally see each other as a possible love match. I would rate the spice level as a definite 5 out of 5 stars as there are very descriptive scenes. If you are looking for a meaningful romantic story with humor sprinkled throughout, I would add this story to your list of potential reads. As this is book 2 of the series, I can attest that it is possible to read this story as a standalone. However, other characters are mentioned throughout the novel, and I wish I had been able to start at the beginning of the series, just for more context. I am very much looking forward to reading the rest of the novels in this series and anything else this author has written. I believe in odds and always having an out—until my stepsister shows up on my doorstep with an eviction notice and nowhere else to go. Opinionated and a self-confessed romantic, it makes sense that Pippa works for the biggest women’s magazine in the country. What doesn’t make sense is why the hell she’d accept an assignment for a “12 Dates of Christmas” feature to find her Mr. Right…while living in my apartment. It shouldn’t be any of my business who she kisses for content, but these guys? Really? It’s not long before our banter starts to feel more like foreplay, and one reckless taste of her proves exactly how combustible we are. But I’m not the sort of guy who can give her forever…so I’ll be her dirty secret instead. Problem is I’ve never been good at sharing, and since she’s ruined me for anyone else, the least I can do is return the favor.
