This is Emily McIntire's fifth book in her Never After series. This was a dark romance and a fractured fairytale, where the villain gets the happily ever after. This book is about Amaya, she has been taking care of her little brother by herself ever since their mom left them and never returned. Father Cade has given his life to the church, but when he moves to this new town he is instantly captivated by Amaya. He needs to know more about her, get to know her, just be near her. But this goes against everything he is supposed to be as a priest. He thinks she is his weakness and needs to be eliminated so these feelings of his will go away. When she comes to him scared and needing help he pushes her away because of his internal struggle over her. Right as she's slipped through his fingers he realizes he might have just lost his true love. And now he will move heaven and earth to get her back and keep her safe, no matter the consequences. This book had me intrigued and captivated the whole way through! This story is dark, so make sure to check the trigger warnings, it's a reimagining of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I ended up liking this book so much more than I thought I would! The trauma, the pain, the heartache, the struggle, the healing, the love, and the twists! Wow! I really enjoyed this one!
