ARC Review: I anticipated the continuation of Hawk, EvanAnn, Damon, and Cam's stories so much. C.S. Berry hooked me from the start of Whisper Pretty Lies, so I was ready to discover how everything would evolve between them in Brutal Little Secrets. Thankfully, the book starts right where the first book left off. I loved this decision as a reader because I'd much rather the book feel like a real continuation that is a seamless transition than have the book self-consciously draw attention to the fact that it's a "part 2." It felt so good to drop right into a Hawk POV chapter that continues to show his caretaker and protective impulses for his Annie. Hawk is so sensitive and gone for her, and I love that. This book had everything I was looking for in the continuation of this story (and more). I got even more attached to these characters and even more invested in the love and revenge story this book brings. C.S. Berry does RH/Why-choose so unbelievably well -- particularly because she brings intrigue, romance, heat, emotion, banter, and found family vibes to them. I'm also a sucker for a step-sibling trope, which this series has in Damon and EvanAnn. The dynamic and vibe between these two was a big reason I got so hooked during book 1, so I feel feral over the journey they took in book 2 in their relationships with each other, but also with Hawk and Cam. The layers of these relationships are the realllll good stuff. It's so beautiful how well these characters complement and connect. The dynamic between Damon and EvanAnn has so much fire and tenderness between them, but it probably wouldn't work so well or sustain itself without the dynamic shift that happens because Hawk and Cam are in the picture as well. I felt that grow stronger throughout Brutal Little Secrets, and now I'm even more ensnared by these characters and their story. Brutal Little Secrets turns up the heat and builds even more momentum for this love and retribution story. In the first book, I felt frustrated by the cliffhanger ending (even though I knew about it going into it), but when I reached the cliffhanger at the end of the second book, I felt grateful that C.S. Berry underestimated how much EvanAnn, Damon, Hawk, and Cam had to say. I'm all in when it comes to getting more time with these characters and finding out the conclusion to their love story. If C.S. Berry is writing it, I'll be here reading it! 🎧 Audiobook Review: Returning to this story, with these characters brought to life with incredible (returning) narrators, was everything I wanted! I enjoyed this audiobook for book two of C.S. Berry’s Lust & Liars series so much that I've already listened to it twice. C.S. Berry's RH stories are addictive, but something about them being in audiobook format grips my attention that much more. The voice actress chosen for the role of EvanAnn, Angelina Rocca, was such a fantastic choice. Angelina conveyed the character’s inner strength and sense of groundedness. Evan Ann is a smart, ambitious, hard-working, talented, and sassy FMC. Angelina brought all those characteristics to her performance, and she also conveyed a sense of vulnerability, which is a key piece of the character. Aiden Snow, Tim Paige, and Michael Gallagher also delivered tremendous performances in their roles as Damon, Hawk, and Cam. I have listened to many other audiobooks with these narrators, so it's always an enjoyable experience to listen to another - but it's even better getting them all together in an RH/Why Choose story. Evan Ann doesn't have to choose, and we don't either! 🤭♥️ If you're an audiobook lover like me, I definitely recommend experiencing Brutal Little Secrets this way. The narrators truly bring the characters, drama, spice, and romance to life. I couldn't stop listening, and once I finished, I started all over a few days later. C.S. Berry always delivers with characters that get under my skin and capture my attention. I can't wait to hear the conclusion of the story in Dark Tangled Truths.
