Image 108: A 1x1 image, likely be a tacker probe Amazon Customer](javascript:void(0)) 5 out of 5 stars Blood of Hercules Trigger Warnings : childhood trauma, childhood abuse, violence, bullying, sexism, death/murder “ I didn’t say it was a masterpiece I said it was 5 stars. “ It’s so rare that a book actually makes me laugh, but between Nyx’s one liners and Alexis’s sardonic mental commentary I was laughing out loud. When I originally picked up this book I DNF’d it after the first two chapters, the beginning is rough and the writing style can be a little difficult to get used to ( kind of like Zodiac Academy ). But I gave it another shot, and once I got through the first two chapters I was hooked. No one on social media really gave a general synopsis of the book, beyond the reverse hare aspect, so I was honestly super confused when I started reading and realized the setting was post apocalyptic Montana and our main character was a foster child with abusive foster parents. It was a little shocking, but I really appreciated the originality of the story. A lot of fantasy books are starting t feel like they’re taking too much inspo from ACOTAR, and that definitely is not the case here. Alexis, our main character, is infuriatingly naive at times while still feeling extremely relatable. There were a lot of times where I wanted to her to actually ask a question to increase her understanding of a given situation, but I understand at the same time why she would be reluctant to do so. The men, in the book, come off extremely unlikable at times, but once again they are a reflection of the society that they live in. If you aren’t into morally grey heroes with stalker-ish vibes this definitely is not the book for you. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It’s like the literary equivalent of reality tv, it’s an easy and extremely entertaining read. I can’t wait to read the second book.
